Chalk the Walk for Grandfriends at Eastcastle Place
Location
Summary
Description
Older adults have a special place in our heart. Kids Impact Community has hosted intergenerational playgroups since the organization’s inception. Our kiddos have learned patience, kindness and how to make new friends of all ages, and our grandfriends benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children.
As you well know, older adults are the population most vulnerable to COVID-19. Nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers have ended visitation and shuttered nearly all of the gathering places for older adults across the country in an effort to protect them from the disease. Though necessary, these efforts can have a devastating effect on a population who already faces an increased risk for loneliness and social isolation.
We feel all the feels for the isolation of our grandfriends, and hope to bring some joy during this time through chalk art and a loud reminder that we love them and miss them.
Purpose: Show our grandfriends that they are not alone, they are loved, and we miss them.
Impact: We hope that all of the children participating will grow in awareness of their capability to spread love and kindness to others when their community needs it most.
Activities: Your family will be creating chalk art on the sidewalk along the circle drive entrance to Eastcastle (2505 E Bradford Place).
All families are asked to wear masks as you are able and to social distance as a family unit. We have a long sidewalk to spread out on.
We would also love to deliver some additional kid art, letters or cards to Eastcastle residents after completing our chalk art. If you are able, we’d love for you to bring these items to the event and we will deliver them to our partner at Eastcastle for distribution.
Materials: Bring chalk if you have some. We’ll have some additional chalk available as well. And, bring your kid art, letters or cards!
